Light of the East

(1892-1902 & 1923-[?], Calcutta)

The Light of the East was a monthly journal. A first series, edited by S. C. Mukhopadhaya, was published from 1892 to 1902 (Vol. 1 to Vol. 10) in Calcutta. A new series, edited by N. C. Mukerjee, was published from the year 1923 by the Astrological Bureau in Calcutta.

The Ideas of India database covers Vol. 1 to Vol. 10 (1892-1902) of the first series and Vol. 1, No. 1 to No. 5 (1923) of the new series of the Light of the East with the following omissions:

  • Vol. 3, 1894-1895 (Nos. 9-10)
  • Vol. 5, 1896-1897 (Nos. 9, 11)
  • Vol. 6, 1897-1898 (Nos. 7, 9-10)
  • Vol. 9, 1900-1901 (No. 10)
  • Vol. 10, 1901-1902 (Nos. 2-4, 7-12)

Vol. 1 carried the subtitle A Hindu Magazine Devoted to Aryan Philosophy, Religions and Occultism. From Vol. 2 onwards, the subtitle was A Hindu Monthly Review.
